books, books, books.

book #2 of 2013

Historical fiction set in World War II era. Follows a family and their struggles and stories through the war.  First in a series of five books.
I really liked this book, especially because WWII is one of my favorite historical eras to read about.
i would give this book a 8 out of 10.
i'm definitely going to read the rest of the series.

book #3 of 2013

from goodreads:

After thirty years of marriage, Wilson Lewis, son-in-law of Allie and Noah Calhoun (of The Notebook), is forced to admit that the romance has gone out of his marriage. Desperate to win back his wife, Jane's, heart, he must figure out how to make her fall in love with him... again. Despite the shining example of Allie and Noah's marriage, Wilson is himself a man unable to easily express his emotions. A successful estate attorney, he has provided well for his family, but now, with his daughter's upcoming wedding, he is forced to face the fact that he and Jane have grown apart and he wonders if she even loves him anymore. Wilson is sure of one thing--his love for his wife has only deepened and intensified over the years. Now, with the memories of his in-laws' magnificent fifty-year love affair as his guide, Wilson struggles to find his way back into the heart of the woman he adores.

I really loved this book, but let's be honet, you can't go wrong with Nicholas Sparks.  I loved how it was a follow up to the notebook.
i would give this book an 8 out of 10.

book #4 of 2013

I got this book at D.I. for like 75 cents and it intrigued me because it had to do with a girl waiting for a missionary, which i did... twice. haha but in the story she begins to grow really close to her missionaries brother.  the book is pretty cheesy and predictable, but it is a fast, entertaining read.  I read it in just a few hours.
I would give this book a 6 out of 10.

book #5 of 2013

from goodreads:

In her poignant work, Jodee Blanco tells how school became a frightening and painful place, where threats, humiliation, and assault were as much a part of her daily experience as bubblegum and lip-gloss were for others. It is an unflinching look at what it means to be an outcast, how even the most loving parents can get it wrong, why schools fail, and how bullying is both misunderstood and mishandled.

this book has probably been my favorite so far.  it is extremely sad and difficult to get through, but it really puts into perspective how important it is to be kind, and to stand up for people.  often times i think we see something that's going on and choose to stay out of it, or ignore it.  when in fact, we are just adding to the problem.
i give this book a 10 out of 10.

what is your favorite book?
read any good ones lately?
let me know so i can add to my list :)
