kindness.

number six:
last random act of kindness

today i served my husband in two ways.
number one.
on thursday mornings he goes to work at 3am and is at school until 7pm.
tonight as he was taking a shower i decided to help him out and prepare several snacks and meals for his extra early/long day.

the second act of kindness was that after looking at baby gap new arrivals and filling my cart with baby boy goodness, i didn't spend a single cent of our money.
boy did i want to.
but i did not, therefore i feel as if i did a service to my husband.
haha!
that counts right?!

seriously though, i die of cuteness.

the untold story.

so, the other day when i posted the engagement story on the blog i left out a rather small, insignificant to the story, detail.
as we were walking through the sand heading towards the cave, matt noticed a louis vuitton wallet just chillin' on the sand.  he picked it up and opened to see what was inside...

$26 cash
several credit cards
drivers license
school i.d.
and other random things.

the owner was a 21 year old california male who definitely looked the part.
we both decided right then and there that we would hang on to the wallet and try and contact the owner.
once we got back to the condo, we decided to try and contact this human via FB...naturally!
we found him, sent him a message, and that was that.
several days later, we still had the wallet, hadn't heard from the dude, and were heading back to utah.
we decided to take the wallet home and then mail it to the address on the license.
a few days after we got home, i headed to the post office and mailed the wallet back with a little note explaining how we ended up with it, and where we found it.
i thought that was the end of that, but the other day i came home to find this package.

i opened it to find...
this card, with this message

it says,
"Dear Amy & Matt,
Thank you kindly for finding & returning my wallet a few weeks ago!!  Sometimes I wonder how many good, humble people there are on this planet these days...now i know there are at least 2!!!  I blow glass as a hobby...Enjoy this pendant I made as a token of my appreciation!
Peace and Blessings!
Devin Yager
P.S. If you guys are ever in SoCal give me a call (phone number)"

of course, we didn't expect anything to come from returning the wallet... we just did what we would want someone to do if the situation was reversed.  it's good to know that there are kind people all over the world who recognize and appreciate good deeds.

and now we have a new friend in SoCal.
pay it forward people, pay it forward.
peace&blessings.
love.

try a little harder.

seeing as how i am going into the field of education, this video really got to me.
it made my heart hurt.

i don't think i was considered a "mean girl" in school, but i know that i definitely could have been nicer.
i could have reached out to more people and befriended those who were lonely, rather than just sticking to my select group of friends.

i feel like in jr high and high school everyone tries so hard to fit in and be the cool kids, but then outside of high school none of it matters. no one cares if you went to every single dance.  no one cares that you were a cheerleader, a jock, a band geek, tennis player etc. etc. and yet at the time it seems like the most important thing in the world.

i love this quote, which i'm sure you've all heard
i think it's such a good motto to live by.
i'll be the first to admit, i often judge people or make funny comments.
i'm not perfect,
but i've really been striving to keep this is mind and look for the good in people each day.
just something as simple as a smile.
holding the door open.
making small talk with someone in line at the store.
compliments.
a nice phone call, text, or email.
service.
and the list goes on.

it's really not hard to be kind to people.
just the other day i was going through the drive-thru at subway and the cashier man was being a creeper (see me judging..haha) he was starring hard core and making me feel weird.  after i paid and he was handing me my card back he said,
"you are really beautiful, do you realize that?"
here i am judging someone for looking at me weird, when really he was trying to pay me a compliment.

let us all try to be a little kinder to those around us each day.
i truly believe it will make all the difference.
love.
amyLynn.

thankful journal-day twenty one.

november 21st.
today i am thankful for KIND people.

such as the lady bank teller that helped me today.
i cried at the bank.
she had no idea why i was crying, nor i doubt did she care.
but guess what,
she listened to my frustrations.
agreed with me.
told me to be grateful that i'm a good saver,
gave me some smarties...and sent me on my way.
she was the best.
so today, i am thankful for good customer service.
jessica at zion's bank. you rock.

love,
amyLynn

thankful journal-day nineteen & twenty.

november 19th.
today i am thankful for lazy days in.
i seriously did nothing.
and it was exactly what i needed.
sometimes you just need to be alone and watch vampire diaries all day and night.
i am thankful for entertainment as well.
even if it causes me to procrastinate homework and not be productive.

november 20th.
today i am thankful for service.
service is such a great thing.
if you are the one doing the service you feel happy.
if you are the one receiving the service you feel happy.
it's a win win situation really.
i am thankful for all the random acts of service those around me do.
love,
amyLynn

kindness.

lately,
KINDNESS
has been on my mind alot.
i love this quote, it's so true.
you never know what other people are going through.
point and case:
this person has been coming to zumba at TDC and not paying.
it ended up being confusion, because our instructor teaches at multiple places and this person thought her punchcard was good at all places.
as i explained to her that it was in fact not good here and she needed to buy a seperate punchcard for TDC,
she told me she wouldn't be able to.
i told her she could take the class for free this time, because she was already here, but after she would have to pay.
the instructor later came up to me and told me how this person has been struggling with family medical problems and herendous bills, but she was finally getting out of the house and doing something for herself.
the instructor proceeded to tell me that she would buy this lady a punchcard because she felt it was important for her to continue doing something for herself.
i seriously wanted to cry.
first, because i had no idea that this lady was going through so much.
second, the kindness of the instructor.
so easily she could have disregarded it and been done.
this was a reminder to me that small acts are so simple, yet mean so much.
i'd like to think i'm generally a pretty kind person,
but i do critique people alot.
i'm a people watcher.
i like to look at people are wearing or not wearing, how they do their hair, the way they are walking etc. and provide commentary.
it's kinda funny, but i also realize it's kind of rude.
my justification has always been that i look retarded some days and i'm sure people think,
"what is that girl wearing"
i wouldn't be surprised to see my picture up on peopleofwalmart.com...seriously sometimes it's badd.
but as i was talking to a friend, we realized how often we judge people because of their looks and she said to me that instead of picking out the bad, weird, and ugly she was going to say something nice about all the people we people watch.
i think this is a great idea.
so, my goal this week is to be kinder in my judgements of peoples appearance.
let us all be a little bit kinder.
love, amy lynn
